Meet Susie
Born in South Korea and raised in Australia, Susie’s connection to art began early in life. As a quiet and creative child, drawing became a way for her to express herself and escape into her own world.
Her fascination with tattooing started unexpectedly as a teenager when a magazine featuring tattooed women was mistakenly delivered to her home. That accidental introduction to tattoo culture sparked an interest that stayed with her, even as her family encouraged her to pursue a more traditional career.
Susie was accepted into law school in 2013 but quickly realized it wasn’t the path she wanted. She left during her first year, enrolled in art school, and began working and saving toward the goal she had carried with her for years: becoming a tattoo artist.
Nearly a decade later, life brought Susie to the United States. She began taking her portfolio to tattoo shops throughout Manhattan until she walked into Red Baron Ink Tattoo & Piercing in New York City’s West Village. Drawn to the studio’s diversity of artists, styles, and clientele, Susie began developing her craft under the mentorship of Red Baron Ink owner and tattoo artist Grant Lubbock.
Today, Susie is a versatile custom tattoo artist in NYC whose work ranges from illustrative and black-and-grey tattoos to color, fine-line details, bold designs, and heavily shaded pieces. Rather than limiting herself to one tattoo style, she enjoys adapting her approach to the artwork and the person wearing it.
A lifelong love of horror movies continues to influence her work, making Susie especially drawn to tattoos that are dark, strange, creepy, macabre, whimsical, or just a little weird. She also has a knack for taking familiar New York City imagery and giving it an unexpected twist. NYC pigeons, rats, and other pieces of everyday city life can become playful, unusual, and completely original tattoos through her perspective.
Whether the inspiration comes from horror, pop culture, New York City, an inside joke, or an idea that’s difficult to put into words, Susie enjoys collaborating with clients to turn concepts into original custom tattoos with personality.
