Daith Piercing: Jewelry, Healing & Aftercare
A daith piercing is placed through the innermost fold of cartilage near the ear canal, creating a distinctive look that can be subtle or highly decorative depending on the jewelry you choose. Because the size and shape of this cartilage vary from person to person, anatomy plays an important role in determining whether a daith piercing is right for you. Our professional piercers will evaluate your ear, discuss placement, and help you choose jewelry suited to your anatomy and style.
Daith Piercing Placement
Before piercing, your piercer will carefully evaluate the shape and depth of the cartilage where a daith piercing is placed. Not everyone has the same anatomy, so placement is determined individually rather than using the exact same position for every client.
Your piercer will also consider the angle of the piercing, available space for jewelry, and how the placement will work with your existing or future ear piercings.
Jewelry for a Daith Piercing
At Red Baron Ink, we use high-quality implant-grade titanium and solid 14k or 18k gold jewelry. The appropriate jewelry style, diameter, and fit will depend on your anatomy, placement, and healing needs.
Once your daith piercing is fully healed, you can explore additional styling options, including decorative rings and statement pieces. Our piercers can also help coordinate your daith jewelry with other piercings as part of a curated ear.
Daith Piercing Healing
Because a daith piercing passes through cartilage, healing requires patience. Some initial tenderness, swelling, mild bruising, or light crusting can be normal. The piercing may look or feel healed on the outside before the tissue inside has completely healed.
Avoid unnecessary pressure, friction, and movement while your daith heals. Be mindful of earbuds, headphones, phones, hats, hair, and anything else that may put pressure on or come into contact with the piercing.
Daith Piercing Aftercare
Wash your hands before touching your piercing and otherwise leave the jewelry alone as much as possible. Gently rinse the piercing with sterile saline wound wash containing 0.9% sodium chloride and dry with a clean disposable product.
Do not twist, spin, or rotate the jewelry. Avoid alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, harsh soaps, ointments, and unnecessary personal-care products around the healing piercing.
Avoid submerging a healing piercing in pools, hot tubs, lakes, or other bodies of water. If your jewelry needs to be adjusted or changed during healing, have it performed by a professional piercer.
