Nipple piercings can be styled in a variety of ways, from simple, minimal jewelry to more decorative options once fully healed. Because anatomy varies from person to person, proper placement and jewelry sizing are important for both comfort and healing. Our professional piercers will evaluate your anatomy, discuss placement, and help you choose jewelry appropriate for your body and personal style.
Nipple Piercing Placement
Before piercing, your piercer will evaluate your anatomy and carefully mark the placement so you can review it together. Placement and jewelry sizing are individualized rather than one-size-fits-all, and your piercer will determine what works best for your anatomy.
If you’re considering paired nipple piercings, your piercer will also take symmetry and natural anatomical differences into account when planning the placement.
Jewelry for Nipple Piercings
At Red Baron Ink, we use high-quality implant-grade titanium and solid 14k or 18k gold jewelry. Initial jewelry is selected based on your anatomy and sized to allow room for normal swelling during the early stages of healing.
Once swelling has subsided, your piercer may recommend downsizing the jewelry for a more appropriate fit. Jewelry changes during healing should be performed by a professional piercer. After the piercings are fully healed, additional jewelry and styling options may be available.
Nipple Piercing Healing
Nipple piercings require patience and can take an extended period of time to fully heal. Some initial tenderness, swelling, mild bruising or light crusting can be normal. A piercing may appear healed on the outside while the tissue inside is still fragile, so continue your aftercare throughout the healing process.
Avoid unnecessary pressure, friction, snagging and movement. Clean, comfortable and breathable clothing can help protect the piercing, particularly while sleeping or exercising.
Nipple Piercing Aftercare
Wash your hands before touching your piercings and otherwise leave the jewelry alone as much as possible. Gently rinse with sterile saline wound wash containing 0.9% sodium chloride and dry with a clean disposable product.
Do not twist, spin or rotate the jewelry. Avoid alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, harsh soaps, ointments and personal-care products around the healing piercings. Keep bedding and clothing that regularly contact the area clean.
Avoid submerging healing piercings in pools, hot tubs, lakes or other bodies of water. If your jewelry needs to be adjusted or downsized during healing, have it performed by a professional piercer.
