Industrial Piercing: Jewelry, Healing & Aftercare

An industrial piercing typically connects two cartilage piercings with a single straight barbell, creating a bold look across the upper ear. Because every ear is shaped differently, anatomy is especially important with this piercing. Our professional piercers will evaluate your ear to determine whether an industrial piercing is suitable for you and recommend placement and jewelry based on your individual anatomy.

Getting an Industrial Piercing

An industrial piercing requires two precisely aligned cartilage piercings that must work together with the same piece of jewelry. Before piercing, your piercer will carefully evaluate your ear anatomy, discuss placement, and mark both piercing points so the positioning can be reviewed before moving forward.

Not every ear is suited for a traditional industrial piercing. If your anatomy isn’t compatible, your piercer can discuss alternative placements or jewelry options that may create a similar look without forcing a piercing that isn’t appropriate for your ear.

Industrial Piercing Aftercare

  • Wash your hands before touching your piercing and otherwise leave the jewelry alone as much as possible. Gently rinse the piercing with sterile saline wound wash containing 0.9% sodium chloride and dry with a clean disposable product.

Do not twist, spin or rotate the barbell while cleaning. Avoid alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, harsh soaps, ointments and homemade salt mixtures, as these can irritate healing tissue. Keep pillowcases, phones, headphones and other items that regularly come into contact with your ear clean.

If a jewelry adjustment or change becomes necessary during healing, have it performed by a professional piercer rather than changing the jewelry yourself.
