Getting your Lip Piercing

Before your piercing, your piercer will evaluate the area, discuss placement, and mark the location so you can review it together. The piercing is performed using a sterile, single-use piercing needle and jewelry selected to accommodate initial swelling.

Because lip piercings involve the mouth and surrounding tissue, proper placement and appropriately sized jewelry are especially important. As swelling decreases, your piercer may recommend downsizing the jewelry to improve comfort and reduce unnecessary movement or irritation.

Lip Piercing Jewelry

At Red Baron Ink, we use high-quality implant-grade titanium and solid 14k or 18k gold jewelry. The appropriate jewelry style and size will depend on the type of lip piercing, your anatomy, placement, and stage of healing.

Your piercer will help you select jewelry that allows room for initial swelling while supporting proper healing. Once the piercing is ready to be downsized or changed, additional jewelry and styling options may be available.

Healing & Aftercare

Healing time varies depending on the type of lip piercing, your anatomy, lifestyle, and how your body heals. During the healing period, avoid unnecessary touching, playing with the jewelry, or changing it before your piercer recommends doing so.

Keep the outside of the piercing clean using sterile saline wound wash containing 0.9% sodium chloride. For piercings that enter the mouth, maintaining good oral hygiene is also important. Your piercer will provide aftercare instructions specific to your piercing and can advise you on downsizing and jewelry changes as you heal.
